Your GP can refer you to Steps to Health, Bexley’s Exercise Referral Scheme which provides a safe, supervised and enjoyable introduction to physical activity within a controlled environment.
The scheme gives people who are not regularly active or who have health problems the opportunity to improve their health and well-being, regardless of age, ability or experience.
What’s Involved?
- Week 1 Welcome meeting and 1st health assessment
- Week 2 Cardio Induction
- Week 3 Upper body resistance Induction
- Week 4 Lower body resistance Induction
- Week 11 onwards 2nd Health Assessment
- A choice of activities e.g. gym classes and swimming sessions
- Setting realistic targets depending upon individual needs
- Advice & support to encourage long term, sustainable changes
What Happens at the End of the 12 Week Course?
At the end of the 12 weeks the Steps to Health Referral Instructor will reassess and sign each individual to enable them to exercise unmonitored. On going programme reviews. Advice & support will continue so you can be active on a long term basis. The individual will now be allowed to use the facility on an unlimited basis including some classes and all the Steps to Health classes at their chosen site at no extra cost for the following 9 months.
